Learn Korean Traditional Dance with KPAC’s Professional instructor!!!

Seoung-mu (Buddhist Monk’s Dance) Instructed by Yisuja Sue Yeon Park

KPAC will present a traditional dance workshop with the most important Korean traditional dance, Seoung-mu (Buddhist monk’s dance) from February 24 to February 28. This Seoung-mu dance has been officially designated the 27th item of the Korean Important Intangible Cultural Assets in 1969. Some scholars say that Seoung-mu came from bubgo dance, a Buddhist ritual dance. It was once prohibited during the Joseon dynasty era, and then it was transformed into a folk dance.

Sue Yeon Park, one of the foremost Korean artists in the United States today and the artistic director at KPAC, will offer a great chance to professional Korean dancers to improve their abilities and skills in traditional dance form through this workshop. She has obtained the prestigious title of yisuja, which designates her mastery at the highest level of Master Yi Mae Bang‘s performance lineage of Seoung-mu. This workshop is supported by the Association of Woo Bong Yi Mae Bang’s Dance Preservation, and Sue Yeon Park will hand down Master Yi’s tradition and heritage with style and dance forms from Yi Mae Bang.

On the last day of the workshop, the organization will offer students a completion certificate. Participants of all skill levels are welcome (from beginner to expert, from kids to adults). We will accept only 10 people in order of application for a class. To RSVP, please call us at 212-921-9344 or email us at edu@kpacnyc.org.
